Tennessee held its spot as No. 4 on an annual ranking of the best states for business thanks to, in

the words of one CEO, its "'can do attitude toward recruiting and retaining major businesses.'" That's according Chief Executive magazine's annual Best & Worst States for Business survey. Tennessee scores particularly high for its taxation and regulation environment, one of several issues the magazine surveys top executives about to compile its rankings.

Tennessee had previously ranked No. 3 on the list, but fell to No. 4 last year. Still, according to a news release, the state previously ranked "in the high 30s," before ascending to the Top 5.

"That takes hard work, and Tennessee has put in the effort to earn its position,"Marshall Cooper, CEO of Chief Executive magazine and ChiefExecutive.net, said in the release.

In addition, Nashville moved up from its #5 2014 Best Cities ranking. Its job growth in 2015 was 3.4 percent and its five-year job growth exceeded 20 percent, according to Forbes.
